About Ryder Truck Rental

Ryder System provides truck rentals as well as supply chain management. Initially, Ryder started as a concrete hauling company (1933), but quickly grew to start leasing trucks to other companies. This new business pulled enough of Ryder's interests that it ultimately changed its focus from distribution to leasing. Ryder now focuses primarily on fleet management solutions (57% of revenue) and supply chain management (34% of revenue). The supply chain aspect of the business includes responsibility for over 22 million square feet of warehouse area.

Ryder was founded in Miami, FL, but now operates out of an un-incorporated part of Miami-Dade County, FL. Ryder currently has a fleet of almost 126,400 trucks; however, part of the fleet is used for commercial leasing contracts, and the rest - approximately 30,000 trucks - are rented out for moving individual customer items and furniture. Ryder has over 480 truck rental locations across North America and the UK with just over 28,000 employees. All Ryder trucks must be returned to the location they were picked up from.

Truck Sizes Typically Available

  • Van Cargo Van Good for moving boxes or 1-2 midsized pieces of furniture. Will not hold full sized refrigerators, tall book cases/armoires/dressers or queen/king mattresses. Holds approximately 230 cubic ft (3,673 lbs.)
  • 16' Sixteen Foot Truck Typically will fit the contents of 2 bedroom apts or small 1-2 bedroom houses. Holds approximately 850 cubic ft (5,780 lbs.)
  • 26' Twenty Six Foot Truck Typically will fit the contents of a 4-5 bedroom house. Holds approximately 1600 cubic ft. (7,395 lbs.)
  • 12' Twelve Foot Truck Typically will fit the contents of a studio, small one bedroom apt, or 5-6 large pieces of furniture. It will not fit a full sized refrigerator, queen/king mattresses or anything over 5 1/2 ft tall. Holds approximately 400 cubic ft (2,770 lbs.)

The truck was clean and ran well. We were able to fit everything in it comfortably. Also the best deal I could find on a rental truck in the area. Only downside was that it took about 1/2 hour to pick the truck up. There was only one person on staff that morning and he had to help the guy in front of me get his moving truck rented first. I really enjoyed the after hours drop off so I didn't get charged an extra day. Overall I'd say a good place to get rental trucks.
